Health and Safety policy
Belgravia Removals Health and Safety Policy
Belgravia Removals is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, subcontractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation activities. This policy sets out our health and safety objectives and the arrangements we have in place to manage risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, accidents and near misses arising from our work. We aim to continually improve our health and safety performance by identifying hazards, assessing risks and implementing effective control measures in all areas of our operations. Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning, decision-making and day-to-day management.
We recognise our duties under relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards and will take all reasonably practicable steps to safeguard our workforce and others affected by our work. All employees are expected to cooperate in implementing this policy and to ensure that their own work is carried out with due regard for health and safety.
Management Responsibilities
The management of Belgravia Removals has overall responsibility for ensuring that appropriate systems and resources are in place to manage health and safety effectively. This includes setting clear expectations, providing competent supervision and regularly reviewing performance.
Managers will ensure that risk assessments are completed and reviewed, safe systems of work are implemented, and necessary training, information and equipment are provided. They will monitor compliance with this policy through inspections, audits and incident investigations and will take prompt action where improvements are needed.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a responsibility to work safely and to support the company in meeting its health and safety objectives. Employees must follow all safety instructions, use equipment correctly and report any concerns, defects, hazards, incidents or near misses to their supervisor as soon as possible.
Employees must not misuse or interfere with any safety equipment or systems provided for their protection or for the protection of others. They are expected to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of colleagues, customers and the public who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Belgravia Removals conducts risk assessments for all key activities, including packing, lifting, carrying, use of equipment, working in customers premises, operating in stairwells and confined spaces and loading and unloading vehicles. These risk assessments identify potential hazards and specify control measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
Safe working practices are developed from these assessments and are communicated to staff through training, toolbox talks and written instructions. Staff are expected to follow these procedures at all times, including correct lifting techniques, use of mechanical aids where provided and adherence to agreed methods for handling heavy, awkward or fragile items.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and is managed with particular care. We provide training in safe lifting and carrying techniques, assessment of loads and team handling methods. Wherever reasonable, trolleys, dollies, lifting straps and other aids are used to reduce the risk of strains and injuries.
All equipment used in our removal services is selected, maintained and inspected to ensure it is suitable and safe. This includes vehicles, tail lifts, ramps, straps, protective covers and moving equipment. Defective or damaged equipment must be taken out of use immediately and reported so that it can be repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are maintained in a roadworthy condition through regular servicing, inspections and pre-use checks by drivers. Loads are secured appropriately to prevent movement during transport, protecting both our staff and other road users.
Drivers must comply with road traffic legislation, adhere to speed limits and drive in a manner that is considerate and safe. Fatigue management, route planning and weather conditions are taken into account to minimise risks during journeys associated with our removal services.
Customer Premises and Public Safety
Our teams work in a range of domestic and commercial environments and take care to minimise disruption and risk. This includes maintaining clear access routes, using warning signs where appropriate and taking precautions to protect floors, walls and fixtures from damage.
Special attention is given to staircases, shared entrances, narrow hallways and busy public areas to reduce the likelihood of trips, slips, falls or collisions. Where required, temporary barriers or spotters are used to manage movement of large items through confined or public spaces.
Training, Information and Supervision
Belgravia Removals provides appropriate health and safety training for all employees, including induction training for new staff and job-specific instruction for those involved in packing, heavy lifting, driving and operating equipment. Training needs are regularly reviewed and refresher training is provided as required.
Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that work is carried out safely on site, that new or younger workers are properly supported and that safe systems of work are followed. Health and safety information is communicated through briefings, notices and regular updates.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported promptly, recorded and investigated to identify underlying causes and prevent recurrence. Where necessary, corrective and preventive actions are implemented and shared across the company.
Emergency procedures are in place for fire, personal injury, vehicle incidents and other foreseeable events. Staff are briefed on these procedures, including evacuation routes, assembly points and the location of first aid supplies. First aid provision is maintained in vehicles and at operational bases in accordance with relevant guidance.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We monitor our health and safety performance through inspections, audits, incident analysis and consultation with employees. Feedback from staff and customers is welcomed as a means of improving our practices and reducing risk in all aspects of our removal services.
This health and safety policy is reviewed regularly and updated when there are changes to legislation, guidance, our operations or identified risks. The revised policy is communicated to all employees to ensure ongoing awareness and compliance.
Policy Implementation and Communication
This policy is approved by senior management and its implementation is a core business priority. It is made available to employees, subcontractors and customers so that our commitment to health and safety is clear and transparent.
By working together and following the arrangements set out in this document, Belgravia Removals aims to provide a consistently safe and professional service throughout all stages of the moving process.
